Occupational profile
- acquisition and resource management (selection, order, acquisition and inventory of various types of media)
- cataloguing of media for electronic catalogues and union catalogues
- providing literature-related information through online searches in databases
- creation of bibliographies and information materials
- searching and purchasing literature from the collections of other libraries through inter-library loan or document delivery
- tasks in information technology (IT) and system administration
- providing training courses for the retrieval of literature (courses for information literacy)
- support in handling ”old“ and ”new“ types of publications and media
- management tasks, amongst others directing working groups and departments in large libraries (for example in the fields of acquisition of media, descriptive cataloguing, information services, training courses, reading rooms) and management of smaller and medium-sized libraries, for example special libraries, libraries of universities of applied sciences, regional libraries
- public relations work, for example organization of library tours, creation of advertising material
- tasks in the field of training and further education

Curriculum
Corresponding to the preparatory period for the Bavarian civil service, the educational program lasts for three years and begins on October 1st. Theoretical and practical parts of the program alternate.
Professional studies at the Department of Archives and Library Science will take place in Munich and last 24 months in total. Practical parts (internships) can be completed at different research libraries in Bavaria and will last 12 months in total, following a specified training schedule.
